This lovely 18th-century copy is from a much-copied painting in the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples by Correggio.
This painting is very similar in style to the larger painting of Stourhead House by Antonio Cavallucci 1752 -1895
Copies of this famous painting also exist in the Hermitage Museum in Russia and the Philadelphia Museum of Art
According to legend, Saint Catherine of Alexander dreamt she became Christ’s spiritual bride. Most depictions show the infant Christ placing a ring on a saint’s finger, but in our picture, the interaction of the figures is limited to tender gestures and eye contact Medium Oil on canvas
