Delivering From: Warsaw, PL
Noe Canjura’s original lithograph. This impression is printed upon laid paper with the Arches watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in Paris in the limited edition of 125 impressions around 1960. It is signed by the artist in pencil along the lower margin and numbered 44/125. This work depicts a young girl in flowers. It is a fine, original example of the art created by the Salvadoran artist, Noe Canjura.
The beginning of modernism in Salvadoran art is largely attributed to three major artists, Raul Elas Reyes, Mario Araujo Rajo and Noe Canjura. All three studied painting and printmaking in San Salvador at the Academia de Valero Lecha. The youngest, Noe Canjura, was the first to achieve an international reputation.
Shortly after his graduation, Noe Canjura received a scholarship from the government to continue his studies in Paris. Except for occasional visits to San Salvador, France would be the artist’s home for the remainder of his short life. Almost immediately, Noe Canjura’s unique use of colour, tone and texture brought extensive recognition and his paintings and lithographs were included in many important French exhibitions. During the last decade of his life, Canjura’s art was exhibited in Rome, Venice, Antwerp, Paris and Marseilles. Today his art is included in many public collections in France, Italy, the United States and Latin America.
This piece is typical of Noe Canjura’s extraordinary talents. It is remarkable to consider that an artist who only reached the age of forty-six could construct such a masterwork of tonal values and colouration.
This work is in original vintage condition.
