Oil on Canvas ‘ A Horse Called Dolly’. An extremely interesting Oil on Canvas from the renowned equine artist Henry Frederick Lucas-Lucas. The subject is a well painted tan mare in a stable setting and titled ‘Dolly’. The painting is well framed in an attractive gilt frame. This could be an important piece of British Military history. ” Four horses, owned by officers who served in the New Zealand Division in France, reached Auckland from Liverpool by the steamer Westmeath. The horses, which will be sent on to Wellington, have been in quarantine in England for 12 months, and have been brought out to New Zealand at the expense of their owners. The most interesting of the quartette is General Sir Andrew Russell’s mare, Dolly”. Lucas-Lucas was well known for painting famous racing and Military horses and the possibility for this to be the Generals horse would effect the significance and value of the painting enormously.
