Japanese Lacquer & Shibayama Fire Screen
A delightful Japanese lacquer and shibayama fire screen of the 19th century Meiji period, this is in the traditional gate form raised on trestle supports. The central panel has applied decoration carved in high relief of birds on a branch, in mother of pearl, bone and horn. The frame is painted with floral sprays, with an outline of a mountain on the reverse.
Dating to the 19th century, this is made of lacquered wood and originates from Japan.
In sturdy age related condition, this has some minor marks and scuffs as expected for its age. The colour is more vibrant on the reverse panel than the front. There is some splatter spotting across the front along the bottom. The relief decoration is in good condition.
