Louis XVI Style Mahogany Commode with Marble Top
£1,500
Description
An attractive chest of drawers, or commode, in the Louis XVI style and dating to circa 1800, this piece has three long drawers and a removable white and grey marble top. The mahogany has a lovely colour, both to the drawer fronts and the panelled sides. The fluting down the sides at the front has gilded metal inserts in the grooves and the legs finish in metal feet. There is a gilt coloured corner decoration above the fluting which appears to have been made of the same white metal as the originally gilded drawer handles. The drawers are nicely lined in blue fabric. A lovely piece of furniture for any reception or living space.
Dating to circa 1800, this is made of mahogany and marble, and originates from France.
In good age related condition, there are some very minor nibbles around the edges of the marble which are not obtrusive. The drawer handles have rubbed through their gilt colour, with use, to a white metal base. There is no key available for the locks, which are present.
