Description
This is a handsome large antique chest which dates to the 19th century.
Made of solid pine and elm it is fairly large and heavy and could serve a variety of purposes in any home. It lends itself well to use as a large blanket box at the foot of a bed or perhaps has a coffee table with hidden storage.
The chest has a thick elm top which opens to reveal a clean interior. The lid has very decorative large brass strap hinges.
It has been rescued and revived by someone before us, the chest has a pine body and elm lid, it has been renovated and the damaged wood cut away and replaced, whoever fixed it has done a fine job.
The wood has a waxed finish which is smooth and fairly matt.
CONDITION
This piece is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
The wood has many old inactive wood worm holes which have been treated as a precaution. The lid is very characterful with knots and wood worm holes.
