Unique mid century sideboard

Description

A beautifully unique mid century sideboard made by British manufacturer Jentique.

Made in the late 1950’s this piece consists of a large cupboard with a shelf inside, a large drawer underneath and a bank of smaller drawers to the side.

The whole piece has been sanded down to the bare wood, before being professionally prepared and hand painted. It has had two coats of primer and undercoat before having three coats of this deep mallard green painted on top. Each of the coats of paint have been sanded down between offering a more durable and smoother finish.

The two doors have been kept bare and given three light coats of varnish to bring out the beauty of the grain. The drawers have been given a unique pattern, making it a great showstopper piece while also allowing more of the woodwork to show through, I felt this kept them nicely connected with the doors. The edges of the pattern have been lined with a copper tape for a nice contrasting detail against the green. This was done as the original feet on this unit are copper plated so I carried that colour into the new design and complimented it further with some polished copper bar handles.

The inside of the cupboards have been painted also and all drawers lined with green felt. The top drawer of this unit had green felt originally as it would have been used as a cutlery drawer, in the new design I thought it added a nice touch to felt all of them. The back is embossed with the Jentique guarantee logo. This being the case I chose not to paint the back. I instead opted to cover the back in a dark green velvet, preserving perfectly the Jentique embossment.
