Description
This is a handsome antique desk which dates to the late 19th century.
The desk is a quality piece which is well made from mahogany, mixed woods and veneers. It is solid and very heavy and is set on brass castors.
The desk is one solid piece and has twin pedestals each housing five graduated drawers which are all finished with brass swan neck handles set on round back plates. The drawers surround a central recessed cupboard, this houses a single removable shelf.
Above the cupboard is a further drawer, all drawers have locks but sadly the key has been lost.
The cupboard lock is broken, the key is purely decorative and is included in the sale.
The wood has a French polished finish which has dulled over time.
CONDITION
The desk is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
Some of the brass handle back plates are of different sizes.
There are marks to the inside of the drawers and the cupboard lock is missing the back piece.
There is a patch repair to the veneer in front of the cupboard door and repaired cracks to the top of the desk at the back. There are other various small losses to the veneer including along one side panel.
It is generally well aged and very characterful.
