French Antique Bonheur Du Jour Writing Desk
£895
Description
A beautiful antique French Bonheur du Jour writing desk dating from the latter half of the 19th century.
Made of walnut, mixed woods and burr walnut veneers the desk is very ornate and characterful with a finish that has faded over the years.
The desk is set on carved cabriole legs and has serpentine front which is fitted with a wide partitioned drawer. The desk top is fitted with a leather insert and this section would have once pulled out but over time the wood has moved and swelled so now remains closed.
The top of the desk has four small drawers flanking an open storage space and to the top is a beautifully carved surmount.
The wood has a Polished finish.
CONDITION
This piece is generally in solid structural condition but is rather aged and full of character.
The finish has faded over the years, probably from being stood in a sunlight room.
The leather is well aged and there are various small cracks, dents and marks to the wood here and there. The pull out leaf no longer pulls out.
The keys shown are just for decorative purposes.
