This modernist armchair was designed by Folke Ohlsson for the Swedish manufacture Dux, Ljungs Industrier AB during the 1960s. The frame of the armchair was made of solid beech wood. The high backrest, spacious seat and armrests have been profiled. The comfort during use is at the highest level. The head pillow, with beige leather strips, is adjustable. This armchair base has been reupholstered in a high-quality two-tone fabric. The armchair is a perfect example of the Scandinavian design of the Mid-Century Modern era.
Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded the internationally successful company Dux Incorporated. The designs of Ohlsson’s armchairs and sofas are appreciated for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. Accordingly, his work has brought many recognition and awards, including the best design at the Milan Triennale in 1964, as well as the Royal Order of the Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustav VI Adolf.
Dux is a Swedish furniture manufacturer, a brand recognized all over the world. The company was founded in 1926 by Efraim Ljung.
This armchair is in very good vintage condition and has been partially renovated. This is an example of master upholstery work. The seat is 43 cm high.
