History
Art Nouveau furniture design brings the craftsmanship to life: it is the style of the individual designer, putting the artist’s work back in the center and removing the work of the machine. The most important innovation in the field of interior decoration is the search for unity. However, this style does not escape certain parallels with tradition, especially with the Gothic, Rococo and Baroque styles; Thus, Gothic served as a theoretical model, rococo as an example of the use of asymmetry, and baroque as a source of inspiration in the visual design of forms. For its part, the colorful art of Japan, through its highly linear treatment of the volumes, also contributed greatly to the liberation of secession from the slavery of the symmetry of the Greek orders.
The wood took strange shapes, and the metal imitated the flowing twists of nature, twisted. Indeed, this style is largely based on the observation of nature, not only with regard to the ornament, but also the structural point of view. Lively, sensual and undulating lines hydrate and take over the structure. Chairs and tables seem to be made of a material with a characteristic softness. Where possible, straight lines are forbidden and structural divisions are hidden in favor of the solid line and motion.
