Mid-Century Swedish Scissor Chairs by Folke Ohlsson for Bodafors, 1960s, Set of 2
Delivering from: Warsaw, Poland
This Scissors armchair set of two was designed by Folke Ohlsson for the Swedish manufacturer Bodafors in 1962. It has a scissor oak frame with eight slats on the backrest. The loose cushions have been re-upholstered in a high-quality grey textured fabric. The history of this project began in 1950 when Olhsson designed these armchairs for his Dux company. Timeless design, simple construction and high-quality aesthetics perfectly reflect the spirit of the Mid-Century Modern.
Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded Dux Incorporated, which was a huge success. The designs of Ohlsson’s armchairs and sofas are appreciated for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. Accordingly, his work has brought many recognition and awards, including the best design at the 1964 Milan Triennale exhibition, as well as the Royal Order of the Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustav VI Adolf.
The Bodafors brand is known under various names, including AB Bodafors Chair and Furniture Factory, AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna and Bodafors, Svenska Möbelfabriken AB. Bodafors was one of the earliest Swedish incubators of application and the later reputation of Scandinavian functionalism in furniture design. The name comes from the city where the company is located, in the Småland region of Sweden. The company remained an important player in the Swedish design market until its dissolution in 1971, when it became part of the Mälmo-based DUX furniture group.
These armchairs are in very good vintage condition with a natural patina and have slight traces on the wood. The seat is 43 cm high.
