Description
This elegant executive armchair was designed by Martin Stoll for the Swiss manufacturer Stoll Giroflex during the 1960s. The molded, rounded frame is made of bent wood and finished in a warm colored walnut with visible regular grain. The seat, armrest and backrest are upholstered in black natural leather. The rotating five-armed leg is made of metal. The armchair is very comfortable. It is a classic design, which in its form refers to the icon of design: the lounge chair by Ray and Charles Eames.
The history of the Stoll Giroflex company dates back to 1872, when Albert Stoll I opened a simple chair factory in the Swiss city of Koblenz. Initially, the company produced bentwood chairs for cafes, hotels and shops. In 1919, the founder’s son Albert Stoll II decided to focus on office chairs. In 1928, Federdreh invented the spring swivel, which quickly became popular and was patented worldwide. It was the first swivel chair with a suspension system. The brand name Giroflex, meaning turn and bend, was introduced in 1948. The new identity reflected the essence of the company’s intent, which was derived from the original invention. The company collaborated with well-known scientists from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich to make office chairs comfortable and adapted to long hours of work and healthy for the posture of the human body. Everything to make the comfort while using it at the highest level. In 2017, Giroflex was added as an independent brand to the international Flokk group. This strengthened the company’s position and placed it in the segment of premium brands.
This armchair is in good vintage condition. It has minor scratches on the leather and a natural patina. On the underside of the seat cushion, two insignificant scrapes of the material. The armrests have been renovated and are upholstered in natural leather. The chair is set in one position, it does not recline. The seat is 39 cm high.
