Description
This phenomenal Tatlin sofa was designed by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini for the Italian Edra manufacturer in the second half of the 20th century. Inspired by the famous Tatlin tower, a symbol of constructivism created by Vladimir Tatlin. It is an exceptional work that designers description themselves in words: “it expresses the idea of people’s unity, common cause, aspiration, the idea of movement – development. It is a picture of energetic action, material expression and energetic formation. It is related to the Tower of Babel by contrasting the symbol of the vanity of acts of humanity with its insolence and constructive approaches.” The wooden model of the sofa is located in the Pompidou Center in Paris. This object is upholstered with raspberry fabric. The spiral inside is padded with polyurethane foam, completely shaped by hand. It is a true work of architecture and an icon of Edra. The highest comfort, universal and timeless elegance can be a decoration of public and private space.
Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini are a duo from Rimini. They both studied architecture at the University of Florence. They worked in Milan as independent designers in the architectural, furniture and fashion industries. In 1993, they won the Top Ten award for the Tatlin sofa at the furniture exhibition in Cologne by Dupont International.
Edra was established in 1987 in Tuscany. Today, it is known all over the world for the absolute quality of its products, which combine artistic tradition, technological research, high manual skills and very high-quality materials. It has always been creating exclusive and timeless products. Sofas, armchairs and all other products in the Edra collection are designed and manufactured in such a way that they are unique.
