Antique Country Carved Oak Livery Cupboard
£975
Description
This is superbly characterful antique 18th century oak livery cupboard of immense character.
The cupboard is a fine example of antique country furniture, it is made in two sections which are heavy and solid. These types of cupboards were originally used to store food and drinks and although fairly large this piece is shallow so could sit well in a hallway, kitchen or dining room.
The base unit is low and is fitted with two wide doors finished with blacksmith made handles and deep carvings.
The top section is much taller and has an arrangement of four wide drawers set under two further cupboard doors to the top.
The whole piece is heavily carved and the wood has a lovely aged patina.
CONDITION
The cupboard is in solid structural condition with many marks of age and use to the wood. There are various scratches, chips and dents to the wood and a lot of old inactive wood worm holes which have been treated as a precaution.
There has been some reworking to this piece, some of the lower shelves are a later addition and a door stay has been added.
The top right hand door has a horizontal shrinkage crack.
A couple of the drawers have small corner pieces missing.
Basically, it is very well aged and old looking.
