Bernard Lorjou (1908 – 1986) was a French expressionist painter and a founding member of the anti-abstract art group L’homme Témoin. At the age of 13, he went to Paris, where, through contacts with the anarchists of Libertaire, he discovered the work of Édouard Manet. In 1931 he visited Spain. There he learned about the work of El Greco, Velasquez and, above all, Goya, who inspired him to paint socio-political episodes. In 1969, he created a series of paintings depicting the murder of Sharon Tate by members of the Charles Manson “Family” religious group. Lorjou has had many exhibitions around the world. His achievements include paintings, lithographs, woodcuts, sculptures, murals and stained glass windows.
Work made on Arches paper. It is a watercolor paper produced only by traditional methods on cylinder presses, thanks to which it has a regular texture. Cotton fibers are evenly distributed, which makes the structure of the paper more stable, resistant to deformation. It is covered with a layer of natural gelatin, so it can be stretched without the risk of tearing. It also maintains the natural intensity and luminosity of colors, except for paints with a natural tendency to penetrate the structure of the paper.
Original vintage condition.
