Description
A French bronze sculpture of a whippet created by Jean Francois Getcher (1976 – 1844). The Whippet has great form with good muscle definition wearing a collar with his head turned back, standing on a rocky mound that is inscribed with the artist signature. The colour is very good with great patina that commensurates with its age.
Jean Francois Theodore Getcher was born in Paris and this is where he worked for most of his life, his first exhibition was in 1824 in a show of classical and mythological creatures, from a student of Francois Bosio and Baron Gros whom Louis bare was also a student of. In 1833 his was commissioned for the Arc de Triomphe and later in 1839 to go on to create a marble statue of Louis Philippe the King of France during this period.
