Description
A charming antique Japanese book stand or ‘pulpit’ dating to the 18th century
Made of fairly lightweight wood the stand has a sloping top set over a single drawer.
The wood has a black lacquered finish with gilding.
To the back is a hand written prayer or poem and a painting of a wise man riding a Koi carp.
It measures
36cms high at the front rising to 41cms at the back
46cms wide at the top, 37cms wide at the base
27cms deep
Very well aged with some chipping, lifting and damage to the lacquer.
One of the small feet is a later replacement.
