Georgian 18th Century Oak Clerk’s Desk

Description
A quality antique, this Georgian clerk’s desk dates to the 18th century, so has been in use for around 250 years and is still functional today. The colour of the wood is beautiful, reflecting the patina of age and use. It has a lip at the front of the sloping desk lid, originally to hold the clerk’s ledger in place, but which now might allow a large book to be displayed, or could be used as a modern working surface to hold a tablet in place. Inside the lid is a simple box area for storing desk supplies and there are two drawers below with lovely brass swan neck handles and cockbeading. The quality of the piece is reflected in the narrow reeded band down the outside corner of each leg. Whether this is used as a desk or simply for display and storage, it continues to have a place in the modern home.
Dating to circa 1770, this is made of oak and originates from England.
In good age related condition, this has only minor scuffs and marks commensurate with use over a very long period of time. The key is available to lock the desk, and turns in one of the drawers, but not in the other. There is a characterful ink stain inside the desk box!
