Description
An unusual 19th century matched pair of heavy cast iron examples of the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom, as used outside of Scotland, these show a lion to the left and a unicorn to the right of each. They show the motto “Dieu et Mon Droit” at the bottom and “Honi soit qui mal y pense” more indistinctly around the central shield. Both are painted black and both have mounting lugs either side at the back. The casting of one is slightly crisper than than the other, and this has black paint to the back, whilst the other has a bare rusted surface.
Dating to the nineteenth century, these are made of cast iron and originate from England.
