Description
This antique barber chair was manufactured by the Swedish manufacture NIKE in 1927. The seat is swivelling and is raised with a double clutch and lowered with an oil level control. It uses hydraulic pressure to adjust the height of the mechanism. All parts are manually adjustable – it is possible to tilt the backrest and raise the seat to a maximum height of 112 cm. The armchair is upholstered in brown natural leather. The metal frame is partially covered with a green color. The seat is mounted on a cast-iron plate-shaped base. Armchairs of this type are used in modern Barber Shops.
Once the NIKE manufactory, today REHOBOT, was founded in 1924. Herbert Landin founded Herbert Landin Domkraftfabrik when he was only 22 years old. Initially, the sale of metal protectors for the soles of shoes contributed to the actual activity – the production of mechanical lifts. In the late 1920s, the company began supplying mechanical lifts for Volvo, the company’s first major customer. Herbert Landin was the first elevator manufacturer in Sweden to be sold under the NIKE brand. In 1932, the first hydraulic jack was produced and the first OEM contract was signed with Volvo Trucks. In the 1930s, hydraulic hairdressing chairs were introduced to the market – a classic hit that is still used in many hair salons today. Barber chairs have been manufactured and sold for many years. They are now like vintage cars – more and more in demand over the years.
The armchair is in original vintage condition. It has signs of age-related wear, but fully functional.
