Pair of George III Inlaid Mahogany Knife or Cutlery Boxes
Delivering from: Newark, United Kingdom (UK)
£2,500
Description
A lovely pair of Georgian cutlery or knife boxes, these have the typical shape for the period, with shaped serpentine front, sloped hinged lid, and inlaid stringing decoration. Each cover has an external brass shield and inside they are inlaid with a star design. Standing on small decorative brass feet, they retain their original pierced, inlaid and fret-carved liners for cutlery and also their original lock plates, although no key is available. Each box has brass handles either side to make them easily portable.
Dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, these are made of mahogany and originate from the UK.
In good age related condition, there is a little damage to the internal inlay of the star design and there is some horizontal cracking to the mahogany at the backs. Overall, this is a very nice pair.
